Ontario’s provincial Parliament passed a law, preventing drivers from using cell phones behind the wheel.

The Countering Distracting Driving and Promoting Green Transportation Act passed unanimously on Wednesday, despite the arguably illogical nature of the bill. It bans the use of mobile phones and

other electronic devices to talk, email, or sent text messages while driving, but makes an exception for both hands-free Bluetooth devices and corded headsets.

The law is to take effect October 26th, 2009 and will involve fines of up to $500.

Ontario is the fourth Canadian province to ban cell phone use behind the wheel, following Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and Quebec.
